2. Bikes as a Public Good - September 18

TCAT, in partnership with the Community Bicycle Network and the Clean Air Partnership, are happy to announce our next public event, coming up in just over two weeks!

Bikes as a public good:

What is the future of public bikes in Toronto?

Come Learn about public bike sharing programs from cycling experts and policy
makers. We want you to tell us what a public bike program in Toronto should look like at our forum this fall!

Date: Thursday, September 18th

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: Innis Town Hall, 2 Sussex Avenue at St. George

3. More Bike Lanes up for Approval  - Brimorton, Conlins, Horner, Renforth and The Queensway

This coming Monday, September 8th, the City's Public Works and Infrastructure Committee will be reviewing a staff report to install 5 more bike lanes this year, totaling 13.2 km. The 5 bike lanes are:

  • Brimorton Drive, from Brimley Road to Scarborough Golf Club Road
  • Conlins Road, from Ellesmere Road to Sheppard Avenue East
  • Horner Avenue, from Browns Line to Judson Street
  • Renforth Drive from Bloor Street West to Rathburn Road:
  • The Queensway, from 250 metres east of High Street to Windermere Avenue

4. New Toronto Bike Lanes - Celebratory Events on Logan, Vaughan and Finch - September 3, 9 & 10

From the City's Bicycle Promotions Office:

The Logan Ave., Vaughan Rd. and Finch Ave. East
bike lanes have been installed! Come join the City's cycling staff
celebrate the opening of these new bike lanes:

Logan Bike Lane Event

Location: Logan Ave. and Gerrard St. E.

Date: Wednesday September 3rd

Time: 4-6 p.m.

Vaughan Bike Lane Event

Location: Vaughan Rd. & Kenwood Ave.

Date: Tuesday September 9th, 2008

Time: 4-6 p.m.

Finch Bike Lane Event

Location: Finch Ave. E & Neilson Rd.

Date: Wednesday September 10th, 2008

Time: 3-5 p.m.

Free juice and treats will be served.


5. Chris Carlsson in Toronto - Various events this week, September 4, 5 & 7

Chris Carlsson will be visiting Toronto and launching his new book Nowtopia.

Chris Carlsson, executive director of the multimedia history
project Shaping San Francisco, is a writer, publisher, editor, and
community organizer. For the last twenty-five years his activities have
focused on the underlying themes of horizontal communications, organic
communities and public space. He was one of the founders, editors and
frequent contributors to the ground-breaking San Francisco magazine
Processed World. He also helped launch the monthly bike-ins known as
Critical Mass that have spread to five continents and over 300 cities.

6. Bloor Dundas Avenue Study - Design Workshop, September 20

From the City of Toronto's City Planning web site:

The City of Toronto, City Planning Division and the
consulting firm of Brook Mcllroy Planning & Urban Design/Pace
Architects invite you to participate in a Design Workshop from 1:00
p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, as part of the Bloor
Dundas ‘Avenue’ Study.

This interactive workshop will include group activities and
discussions. Groups will focus on urban design issues, streetscape,
opportunity sites where increased building heights and massing may be
appropriate and potential transportation improvements for the area.

If you are interested in attending the Design Workshop,

confirmation of your attendance to ccambra@toronto.ca by September 15.
